Cedar Valley Montessori 2008-2009 Board Members
Cedar Valley Montessori School, Inc. is a non-profit organization, composed of parents and other friends of Montessori children. It is governed by a Board of Directors elected by school members. The purpose of the Board is to help establish school policy and administer the program. Parents are encouraged to oversee the school's operation by involvement on the Board of Directors and/or other standing committees. Everyone associated with the school should be familiar with the school handbook, by-laws and philosophy. In fairness to all, the school's personnel will enforce the Board's policy even at the possible expense of individual family wishes.

Cedar Valley Montessori 2008-2009 Staff Members
Dr. Montessori always referred to the teacher as the "Directress" and her role differs considerably from that of a traditional teacher. Instead of using a prepared curriculum, the Directress and her assistant observe individual interests and demonstrate the correct use of materials. One of her primary tasks is careful observation of each child in order to determine his needs and to gain the knowledge she needs in preparing the environment, to aid his growth. Her method of teaching is indirect in that she neither imposes upon the child, as in direct teaching, nor abandons him in a nondirective, permissive approach. Further, she is constantly alert to the direction in which the child himself has indicated he wishes to go and she actively seeks ways to help him accomplish his goals.
